Overview: Experience the space, mural, and garden. Explore the lore and science of blue vervain; go home with a gift featuring this timeless beauty.
Hi! 👋 I am Faith Hanna–herbalist, professor, and creator and curator of the newly-opened Living Museum of Herbal Wisdom.
Since late April, I've been partnering with very closely with blue vervain, also known as hiero botane, sacred herb, and "Enchanter's Herb." Purple-flowered blue vervain (verbena hastata) is native to California, and its medicinal cousins, grouped as "vervain," or verbena officinalis have long been highly-regarded across Africa, Asia, America, and Europe.
Why?
Blue vervain is bitter medicine. Blue vervain is also famously calming, cooling, and helps with sleep, digestion, lactation, menstruation. It is antispasmodic, hypotensive, and a liver restorative (hepatic). There's a reason why it is prized, all over the world, as a strong and healing ally. And, while bitter, this ally can be made delicious, something we will explore together during this experience.
You'll go home with a gift featuring this timeless beauty.
Note: if you are pregnant or may become pregnant, this is not the medicine for you right now (But it may be for someone close to you). There are no other reported contraindications for this plant.
