What is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine or herbalism, called “the people’s medicine,” is a widely shared and rooted practice grounded in folk and indigenous wisdom, and earth and land healing. Many cultures have precious idiosyncratic knowledge, and many share the same appreciation for plants. Mullein, for example, is native to Europe, Africa, and Asia, and is naturalized in America and Australia, all places where it is prized for being a pioneer plant with a soothing nature, but from one person and culture to the next, mullein is a versatile remedy.
Herbalism’s timelessness, universality, and plurality meet our current needs to connect to what is deep, real, and true about tradition, while honoring creative new ways of experiencing plant-medicine.
